Introduction
Rotary Sanskardharn Academy is an ideal education system which provides good amenities & facilities to ensure that the students with hearing impairment and multiple disabilities and other special needs are provided with standard education and all round development.
With a humble beginning of 25 hearing-impaired students in 1995 (then Sanskardharn Vidyalaya for Hearing Impaired) they will be able to focus on how many people have been grown into a full-fledged school that offers more than academics.
Looking at the years of work and dedication of the SVHI faculty, the Rotary Club of Mumbai Queen's Necklace and Sanskardharn Kelwani Mandai supported the institute and constructed the school building in the year 2008.
Functioning in a four storied building, the school now has 157 students with special needs (28 Adults & 129 Hearing Impairies). Students participate in various events viz., arts, sports, drama, dance, swimming, martial arts etc. They have access to a well equipped gymnasium, a well stocked library, a computer lab and a mess hall. Some of our students have been integrated into the mainstream education.

Bridging the gap
LEAP Programme- Team, Earn, and Apply was started in June 2012 to encourage students to gain work experience and improve their communication and job skills before they step out into the professional world. More than 30 students from the campus have been trained in life & computer skill. Some of the students have already been placed with corporate.
Academics
The students from preschool to graduation participate in a challenging curriculum same as that of regular students, which provides an opportunity for comprehensive development. A child's experience at school incorporates a wide range of activities, such as:
-
English Literacy Programme
-
Art and Craft Activities
-
Educational Excursions
-
Nature Exploration
The use of teaching aids, technology, educational visits, has made the teaching and learning better. We encourage critical thinking and practical application to education which ensures students success in the last paced and ever changing world.
Beyond Academics
The academic excellence is incomplete without a robust co-curricular calendar that prepares the young minds to face the challenges heard on and thus becomes a highly productive individuals. Our school has been at the forefront of path-breaking initiatives. Creativity, innovation, and uniqueness have been the hallmark of all our school events.
Students across grades are taken to interesting places for excursions & picnics to extend their learning beyond the classroom and connect real-life to their syllabi. We have active interest Club which regularly participates in community work and social service projects under the guidance of Rotary Club of Mumbai Queen's Necklace.
The school has an active approach for sports, dance and other activities. The school offers facilities for varied team and individual sports/activity such as, Swimming, Chess, Table Tennis, Karate, Malakhamb, skating etc.

Telling Tales
Thanks to them - over 70 special children like us have learnt to overcome our disabilities and face the world with confidence. Some of us, with multiple disabilities, were considered hopeless and discarded by other schools.
But at SVHI no one is hopeless and nothing is impossible. So here we are leading a near normal life and looking forward to the future with hope and joy. We are one too many. But here are three telling tales.

Abhinand Guthi
Then - hearing impaired and unable to stand or walk due to poor muscle coordination and slight brain damage.
Now - Learnt to coordinate movements Also good at studies particularly in languages

Heena Kausar
Then - Silent, withdrawn avoided people, disliked light and colours.
Now - Captain of the school, fights with people for her rights ! Winner of many prizes in cultural and sports competitions, she will appear for SSC in 2006

Suhita Bhatt
Then - Immobile due to part paralysis, she could neither hear, speak nor walk properly.
Now - walks, runs and participates in sports. Equally good at studies, though given a chance she would rather play than study.
Your participation
I had envisioned a school for children with special needs that would offer education at all academic levels. My dream has come true. Today, when I see my students excelling at academics as well as in sports, cultural activities and arts, I cannot be prouder. It has been a beautiful experience to see these students turn into independent individuals who can stand on their own feet in this competitive world.
